Changes apply to applications made on or after the 6th April 2010.
Tier 1 (General) the changes:
UKBA will award points for first class degree qualifications when evaluating applications in this category
Applicants with previous earnings of £150,000 or more will not need to show any qualifications.
Points will be awarded for age for applicants up to 39 years old.
Migrants in this category will no longer be able to take professional sports jobs, including positions as coaches.
Migrants under all four categories in this Tier will be allowed to work as doctors or dentists in training, provided they have graduated from a recognised UK institution.
Tier 2 the changes:
Generally, employees changing jobs within the same ‘standard occupational classification’ code will no longer have to make fresh Tier 2 applications. This will exempt many promotions, saving employers time and money.
Intra-company transfers the changes:
For initial applications made on or after 6th April, time spent in the UK as an ‘intra-company transferee’ will not count towards the five years required for eligibility for ‘indefinite leave to remain’. Employers should make clear to intra-company transferees that they will not be coming to the UK under an immigration category leading to settlement options.
The intra-company transfer category will spilt into the following three sub-categories:established staff; graduate trainee; and skills transfer.
